Educational Facilities Master Plan

Launching 20 Years of Capital Investment

The FY2017 Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP) marks the beginning of a major change in the way Prince George's County Public Schools is planning for the future. The EFMP now includes a comprehensive school by school schedule for modernizing more than 133 schools; constructing new schools; reorganizing sixth grade to middle schools; and conducting planning studies to consider boundary changes and consolidations. Minor updates to some appendices were made to the EFMP for FY2018.  They are listed at the bottom of this web page.

The final recommendations in the approved FY17 Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP) were derived from stakeholder input and the consultant findings and recommendations contained in the 2015 Master Plan Support Project (MPSP) Final Report. Following the Fall 2015 Community Engagement process, a first draft of recommendations were reviewed with central office staff prior to incorporation into the Preliminary FY17 EFMP. Draft recommendations include a preliminary prioritization schedule for the next 20 years of school construction and renovation projects. In Section 5, planning recommendations and projects for individual schools are organized geographically by Planning Area (PA) with adjacent schools of similar grade types. There are three high school PAs (38, 39, 40); four middle school PAs (34, 35, 36, 37); and 33 PAs for elementary and other school types. PAs are generally grouped into three major regions of the county:

  • Northern Region: PA 1-14; 34; and 38
  • Central Region: PA 15-23; 35-36; and 39
  • Southern Region: PA 24-33; 37; and 40
