Flight Simulation 2015

It was first class all the way to Southwest

Airlines Headquarters for the Charles

Flowers High School Winning Flight

Simulation team and parents".

Four Charles Herbert Flower’s students (Joale Jupiter, Kevin

Sandoval-Perez, Jamie Stringfield and Benjamin Walker II)

were treated to all expenses paid, three days (Aug 3-5,

2015) tour of the Southwest Airlines Headquarters as the

grand prize winners of the Patriots Technology Training

Center Flight Simulation Competition 2015. The students

also won a free trip for their parents to accompany them to

Dallas. One of the highlights of the trip was having 4

Tuskegee Airmen accompanying them.   The students and

their parents enjoyed an excellent opportunity to hear about

the history of the Tuskegee Airmen and their careers in the

aerospace industry.  During personal mentoring sections, the

Tuskegee Airmen inspired the students “to never give up but

always work for your dreams”.   The students also were

escorted and mentored by several Southwest Airline Pilots

and employees.

The three-day schedule included tours of the, Southwest

Airlines Headquarters Flight Operations Training Center, The

Frontiers of Flight Museum, Southwest’s social media

section, maintenance facility and the national operations

center where they monitor over 800 planes flying around the

world.   The students were impressed with the Southwest

Airlines facility.  They came away with two very strong

impressions that Southwest Airlines is the place to work and

the Tuskegee Airmen were awesome!

"It was first class all the way to Southwest Airlines Headquarters for the Charles Flowers High School winning Flight Simulation team and parents".

For winning the Flight Simulation competition, we had the opportunity to spent three days touring the Southwest Airlines headquarters, one of the highlights was being accompanied by 4 Tuskegee Airmen for the entire trip. It was an excellent opportunity for us to hear about the history of the Tuskegee Airmen and their careers in the aerospace industry.

As soon as we landed, we had dinner at Moe's Mexican restaurant with the Tuskegee Airmen. We also went on a tour of Southern Methodist University, the location of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.

"We also had a chance to fly in one of their flight simulators that are akin to flying at night".

The three-day schedule for tours of the maintenance facility and the national operations center where they monitor over 800 planes flying around the world. We also had a chance to fly in one of their flight simulators that are akin to flying at night.  We toured the Southwest’s social media section where they supervise their chat line and social media sites. We were impressed with the Southwest Airlines facility and came away with the impression that Southwest Airlines is the place to work.
