Maryland Professional Certificate Renewal Requirements

ISSUED AFTER JANUARY 1, 2003

NOTE: The reading courses required for certification must be satisfied before professional growth activities can be submitted for certificate renewal.  All college coursework and/or degrees must be completed at a Regionally Accredited College or University or through the PGCPS Professional Development Office.

SPC I

Valid for Five (5) Years

To Renew:

  •  Present six (6) credits of acceptable credit*.

AND

  • Verification of  three (3) years of overall satisfactory profession school related experience (two [2] consecutive).

AND

  • Present a Professional Development Plan for subsequent certificate.

SPC II

Valid for Five (5) Years

To Renew: 

  • Completion of approved Master's degree or completion of approved 36 credit education related program*.

AND

  • Verification of three (3) years of overall satisfactory school related experience prior to issuance date of APC.

  • Present a Professional Development Plan for subsequent certificate.

Advanced Professional Certificate

Valid for Five (5) Years

To Renew: 

  • Present six (6) approved credits/renewal units which must be taken during validity*.

AND

  • Present a Professional Development Plan for subsequent certificate.
