Career and Technical Education (CTE) enables students to acquire the academic, technical, and life skills to make a successful transition from high school to postsecondary education and/or career opportunities. It is an integral component of Prince George’s County Public School’s Bridge to Excellence Master Plan that every student graduates college and career ready.

Research shows that students who participate in CTE programs are:

  • More likely to complete high school.
  • More likely to attend college.
  • More likely to be prepared to enter the workforce.

In Prince George's County Public Schools, CTE is administered through a variety of programs with courses offered in Business, Family and Consumer Science, Technical Academy, Experiential Learning and Technology Education. Students have the option to participate in 26 programs of study within 10 career clusters adopted from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). To prepare our students, we have an independent elective course designed to reinforce academics while helping them to acquire 21st century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, team work, communication and the ability to utilize technology within their everyday lives.
