Department of Budget and Management Services is primarily responsible for preparing, managing, and monitoring the operating budget for Prince George's County Public Schools.  The department prepares and provides fiscal and financial information to the Superintendent, Board of Education, schools, offices, state and county fiscal authorities, and the public at large.  In addition, Budget and Management Services provides guidance, support and expertise to the offices and schools in budget formulation and management. 

The purpose of this program is to provide the Chief Financial Officer, Superintendent and Board Members with timely, meaningful and accurate financial and management information as related to school system operations.  This purpose is accomplished through a number of activities including budgeting, fiscal forecasting, management analysis and research, and position control. 

Goal 5 (Effective and Efficient Operations) of the Master Plan is directly related to and supported by this office.  In addition, the activities of this office provide general support to the full range of goals of the school system.  

Winner of the GFOA Budget Presentation Award - 2010, 2011, 2012
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) presented
a
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to Prince George’s County Public Schools, Maryland
for its annual budget.  In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a
budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as a financial plan,
as an operations guide, and as a communications device.
