Bond Mill Elementary School Before and After Care Program
Inclement Weather and Other Emergency Conditions Policy
Effective July 1, 2005
Site: Bond Mill Elementary School Coordinator: Ms. Alyce Shenk
Purpose: To provide guidelines and procedures governing the Before and After Care (BASELP) Program during inclement weather and other emergency conditions to be aligned with PGCPS procedures.
Background: Certain conditions, most commonly caused by inclement weather or other local emergencies, may require the Chief Executive Officer to open schools late, dismiss schools early, or close schools for the entire day. Nonetheless, it will be general practice of the Prince George’s County Public Schools Before and After School Extended Learning Program to maintain office and program operations to the maximum extent possible.
Procedures: When due to either inclement weather or other emergency it becomes necessary to cancel, delay the opening of school or close early Prince George’s County Public Schools, the BASELP will respond accordingly:
No School Day: The unscheduled cancellation of the Prince George’s County Public Schools during inclement weather or other emergency will result in the closure of the Before and After School Extended Learning Program. An announcement will be made on area radio and television stations: as well as PGCPS Channel 96 “Prince George’s County Public Schools are closed.”
General Delayed Openings: In the case of a delayed opening of school, the Before and After School Extended Learning Program schedules will also be delayed for the corresponding amount of time announced. Example, if the opening of school is delayed for one (1) hour, then BASELP would open at 8:00 am, if it is a two (2) hour delay, then BASELP would open at 9:00am.
General Early Dismissal: In the case of an early dismissal, the Before and After School Extended Learning Program schedules will be adjusted to coincide with that of the school district. Example – a one (1) hour early dismissal would mean that BASELP would close at 5:00pm; a two (2) hour early dismissal would mean that BASELP would close at 4:00pm.
One School Closed: The Before and After School Extended Learning Program at this particular site will be closed. Parents will be notified.
One School – Early Dismissal: All staff and students will report to the alternative school location. Parents will be notified.
Half Day Closings: Scheduled Half Days – BASELP operates as usual – closing at 6:00pm.
Emergency half day closing would result in BASELP closing at 3:00pm.
