Biography
Amber P. Waller was appointed to the Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education by County Executive Jack B. Johnson, and sworn in on September 25, 2007 after a unanimous confirmation by the Prince George’s County Council.
Board Member Waller serves as the Executive Director of the Maryland Black Mayors, Inc., where she establishes business partnerships, promotes advocacy and provides input on legislative issues. She also served as an elected member of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee.
Since residing in Prince George’s County, Ms. Waller has played an active role in civic and community activities, serving as civic association President representing over 1200 households, founding member of Washington Gas Watch which successfully protested the building of a liquefied natural gas facility in the Chillum community, member Multi-Cultural Alliance of Prince George’s County, and Stepping Up Crime Watch and various other county and community organizations.
Being an involved parent and strong advocate of education, Ms. Waller has served as President and Vice President as well as other roles with the Prince George’s County Parent Teacher Association, Board Member, Boys and Girls Clubs Greater Washington Metropolitan Area (Prince George’s County), and was appointed by then school board member (now Maryland State Delegate) Doyle Neimann to the Committee of 100. Ms. Waller received an award for Prince George’s County Public Schools Outstanding Volunteer and several awards while serving as the Vice President of the D.C. Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Having served an exemplary career in executive administration and program management in her 25-plus years career, she has worked for organizations including the U. S. House of Representatives, IBM, The George Washington University and Trinity College.
Ms. Waller has resided in Prince George’s County for over 12 years. She has one son, Cullen Brian Waller, a graduate of Prince George’s County schools and now a senior at Morgan State University, and a step-daughter, Alva Yvette Waller, Esq., of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
