Thomas Stone ES Selected For Target School Library Makeover
The Mt. Ranier school is one of 150 nationwide selected by  Target for renovations. The makeover is scheduled to begin Thursday,  October 25. Target will renovate the elementary school  libraries in partnership with the Heart of America Foundation. Read more >>
$1.65B Budget Under Review by County Council
The County Council is reviewing the $1.65 billion Operating Budget request for Fiscal Year 2013. Final reconciliation will occur after the state and county approve their budgets.
AP Participation Rates on the Rise
Advanced Placement test participation rates continue to rise amid aggressive efforts to expand access to AP course offerings. Results from the College Board show a 68 percent increase in the number of AP exams taken in Prince George’s County, from 5,329 in 2006-07 to 8,978 in 2010-11.
Extended Learning Program Registration

Last Day of School Announced

Nicholas Orem MS Students Place at Area Science Fair
Students from Nicholas Orem Middle School competed in the Prince George's Area Science Fair this weekend at Prince George's Community College. NOMS submitted 5 projects from students, Favour Nerrise (8), Michael Johnson (8), Taylor Parks (8), John Lloyde Rayela (7), and Christian Barron (6). Please join us in congratulating John Lloyde Rayela as he placed 3rd in the Engineering and Electrical Category with the project title, "The Efficiency of the Bridge" and Taylor Parks as she received Honorable Mention in the Plant Science Category with the project title, "Does Roundup Kill Plants." Science Teacher Daisy Rayela accompanied the students.

Students at Nicholas Orem Middle School have a special opportunity to participate in SeaPerch http www.seaperch.org about, an underwater robotics competition that is held annually and sponsored by the United States Naval Academy. Read More>> 

Dr Seuss Read Across America Parent Workshop Day at Rosa L. Parks ES
On March 2nd the Reading Committee and PTA at Rosa L. Parks Elementary school hosted a Read Across America event for parents and students. The parents were given training on reading strategies to use at home with their children. Parents were given questions to ask prior, during and after reading in English and in Spanish. The parents and students also created a "Make and Take" bookmark to use when reading at home with students. Next, the parents and students enjoyed a breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham, pastries, fruit and juice. After the workshop, parents were invited to go to their childs' class to read a book. Congratulations to the Northwestern Wildcat Forensics Team! The students do a great job under the excellent direction of Mr. Somers. The Wildcat Forensics team came in 6th overall at the last meet. They compete in Virginia, against well established teams.
