Biography
Student Board Member Sworn-In For Second Term
Edward Paul Burroughs, III, is a student at Crossland High School. He's a strong advocate for student rights and is actively involved in the community. He is currently the Student Member on the Board of Education for Prince Georges County. Service to the community is truly a necessity in his eyes; in fact, he has about 3,000 community service hours.
Mr. Burroughs is currently discovering his passion for politics, so it's not a surprise, that he was a part of Senator Barack Obama’s campaign team. He loves testifying before his county, state, and national legislators. He has already set up plans to work with his state legislators this school year to pass student safety laws, student scholarship opportunities and Drivers Education. Mr. Burroughs has lobbied in Annapolis on various student related bills such as Senate Bill 933, Senate Bill 1, High School Assessments and other student related bills. Mr. Burroughs is truly committed to helping the students succeed. He has already started working with partners (schools, congress, and business communities) that have vested interests in the successful outcome of today's youth. These partnerships will ensure that all students have the ability to succeed.
Mr. Burroughs has recently united with the Student Board Members from Montgomery, Anne Arundel and Howard Counties to successfully pass an amendment that struck "graduation requirements" as part of a resolution, about the High School Assessments, in the Maryland Association of Boards of Education.
It is Mr. Burroughs’ hope that the students and citizens of Prince George's County will rise up and come together as one!
"…together, united as one, we will leave a mark that can never be erased"
