Message from Principal Mahoney
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Saturday evening we were alerted to a potential threat to our
school community that had been posted anonymously using social media.
The authorities were immediately contacted and they have been working
tirelessly to confirm the legitimacy of the concern. During this process,
there has been constant communication between leadership in the Prince
George’s County Police Department, P.G.C.P.S. Security Services
Division, the CEO’s Office and myself. Though there appears to be no
validity, the PGPD and Security Services have committed to allocating
additional resources to the building. This is being done as a precautionary
measure in order to ensure safe and orderly operations throughout our
day. The school will operate on normal hours and we will keep you
abreast of any updates.
In this age of increased alertness it is important that we monitor our
children’s social media accounts and other vehicles of mass
communication. This will ensure that issues such as this are identified and
thwarted as quickly as possible. The situation was treated seriously on the
highest levels and the assailant will be held accountable for the unrest that
their actions caused. Though disturbing, I have every confidence that we
will be able to return to the business of teaching and learning in an
environment where safety remains the priority. To assist us in this regard
we ask your support in the following manner:
- If you are alerted to a concern, please report it to the attention
of the school’s administration and authorities immediately.
- Please direct your children to only use the main entrance and
security lobby entrance to access and departure from the
- When visiting, ensure that you use the main office entrance
and proceed directly to the main office for screening.
In conclusion, I’d like to extend a special thanks to those students,
parents and community members who provided information regarding this
matter. The communication was invaluable during the initial
investigation. We thank you for your continued support and look forward
to a successful school year.
