Avalon Elementary is a Kindergarten through Sixth grade school. We have class sizes that average 25:1. Grades 3 through 6 are departmentalized. Teachers who teach on these grade levels teach all the students in the grade. Some teachers may teach one subject or two.
Avalon has CRI (Community Reference Instruction) classes. Our Special Education and ESOL program push in to the classroom. The resource program follows curriculum in the county as it meets the needs of the students as identified in the Individualized Educational Plan. The I.E.P. team meets to discuss academic and social emotional development monthly. Parents are invited when their child is discussed. Speech/Language is provided to those students identified. Our Reading Specialist supports students in the classroom with the curriculum and provides support to small groups. We are fortunate to have a full time counselor.
Students who have already been identified as TAG have been grouped together in grade level. The TAG program is included in the classroom and pullout program.
Avalon has a Creative Arts schedule that include Guidance, Media, Music and Physical Education. Creative Arts classes are very instrumental in helping to meet the instructional goals of the school. Students in grades 4 through 6 have the opportunity to participate in band or chorus.
We participate in the Healthy Schools Program. A new school is in the process of being built which will be a green school due to be completed by the Spring of 2013.
