Collage Welcome!

Welcome to our world, “The Other Side of Education”.  The Office of Interscholastic Athletics of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) believes that interscholastic athletics is a way to achieve a balanced educational program for our students.  As we all know athletic competition, by its nature, will contribute to greater student awareness of self-discipline, a growth in emotional maturity, and an increasing realization of the worth of the individual.  Students will also realize that participation in athletics is not only a privilege, but is also an honor that requires responsibility for maintaining one’s academic standing in the classroom and for maintaining a high standard of conduct.

The Prince Georges County Public School Athletic Association (PGCAA) is the governing body of PGCPS Interscholastic Athletics Program for the high schools.  PGCAA is composed of sports representatives, athletic directors, and a principal liaison.   The association is administered by the Director of Interscholastic Athletics and is presided over by its President of the Association.

PGCPS Interscholastic Athletics Program membership consists of twenty-six (26) high schools offering the following programs and sports in two categories:

Interscholatics Athletics: Baseball,Basketball,Cheer Leading,Cross Country,Football,Golf,Indoor Track,Soccer,Softball,Swimming,Tennis,Track and Field, and Wrestling.

Corollary Athletics: Bocce, Softball, and Track and Field

PGCPS athletics program is operated under the regulations of Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA).  The MPSSAA is composed of over 100,000 athletes, 188 member schools, and is divided into nine districts.  The MPSSAA also host twenty-three state tournament championships.

The Middle Schools Athletic Association governs sports programs in the 34 middle schools.  Charter schools are allowed to participate if approved by school administration. We offer four sports and six teams, including cheer leading.  In addition, intramural sports may be offered as well.

*      All sports may not be offered at each school.  Teams are established based on participation.
