Edgar Allan Poe Academy is designed to provide a transitional program for general and special education co-taught students experiencing behavior concerns in grades 4, 5, and 6. Special education students who are identified as needing a 45 day interim alternative setting due to infractions of the Code of Student Conduct are also served in the academy program.
Students are transferred into the program with all student data and State Assessment testing information credited back to their base school. The program affords students an opportunity to advance academically through individualized instruction that includes an emphasis on behavior modification and goal development. The program concepts of mandatory school uniforms, the Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) Behavior Management Model, strict attendance guidelines, and small class sise are primarily organized for positive student skill development for a two semester maximum enrollment.
