Brandywine Elementary School students and community will enjoy a state-of-the-art media center and updated library collection, thanks to a multi-partner initiative led by non-profit partner The Heart of America Foundation.
Volunteers will work together Friday, starting at 10 a.m., to transform the school’s library media center and fill the shelves with hundreds of new books. After completing the library makeover, participants will visit classrooms to distribute three books for each student to take home. PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III will join students, volunteers and other special guests for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m., when another community initiative – a new outdoor classroom – will be announced.
Partners include Panda Power Funds; Chalk Point Generating Station; G.S. Proctor & Associates, Inc.; Brandywine North Keys Civic Association; Gudelsky Group; Aggregate Industries; Patuxent Companies; Walton; and Prince George's County Government.
For two decades, The Heart of America Foundation has been providing children in need with the tools to read, succeed and make a difference by creating vibrant learning environments for children and engaging volunteers in acts of service. To learn more, visit www.heartofamerica.org.
