• News Release: PGCPS High School Graduation Season Kicks Off With College Signing Day

    UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Graduation season in Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) begins Monday, May 1 with College Signing Day, a celebration of students’ commitment to higher education.

    PGCPS College Signing Day inspires more youth to pursue a two- or four-year institution and promotes a college-going culture throughout the school system.

    On Monday, all high school seniors are encouraged to share their college decisions on social media (#PGCPSCollegeSigningDay and #ReachHigher). PGCPS staff members are encouraged to wear attire or paraphernalia representing their alma mater or favorite college team. 


    Oxon Hill High School will host a College Signing Day assembly Monday morning. Scholarship totals for the class of 2017 will be revealed during the event and all students will announce their decision. Oxon Hill was recently named as one of the top 50 high schools in Maryland by U.S. News & World Report.

    Younger students are participating in the day as well. Glenn Dale Elementary School will host a college and career fair Monday to encourage students to become “future-ready.”

    College Signing Day events will be held nationwide Friday, May 5 as part of former first lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative. Former U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King will keynote Charles H. Flowers High School’s annual Senior Signing Day celebration. Students will declare their college or trade school designation or announce appointment to the armed forces. College representatives will be present to welcome their class of 2021. Younger students are participating in the day as well. Glenn Dale Elementary School will host a college and career fair Friday to encourage students to become “future-ready.
